Here are some photos of the recently announced Cinema EOS 8K camera currently in development and being displayed on the show floor at Canon Expo 2015 in New York. DV Info Net readers will recall that Canon Expo is a once-every-five-years opportunity to get an inside look at an otherwise secretive manufacturer, as described in our articles A Preview of Canon Expo 2015 and Canon Inc. shows UHD at Canon Expo 2010.
Three fully operational 8K cameras are centered around a highly detailed shooting gallery patterned off of a tailor’s shop. One unit is rigged in a studio configuration with an 8K broadcast lens; one is set up with on-board 8K recording in the form of four Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q monitor / recorders; and one is shooting with an L-series EF mount lens. The body of the 8K camera is basically a C300 Mark II chassis; it’s just a “placeholder” for now. When this camera model actually goes into production, it will most likely have a different Cinema EOS camera shell.
Individual photo descriptions to follow shortly.
